NERPA505 Update

Greetings 505!  I hope everyone is enjoying the summer.  I hope, too, that everyone is taking a little time for study and professional development.  School will begin again in just about a month.  There's no better time than now to work on your CAP studies.

Congratulations to Collin Matheny on his promotion to C/SrA!  Thanks is extended to SM Ed Atwood, who has agreed to serve as one of our testing officers.

(1) Tuesday is Aerospace Education emphasis night.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.
(2) Please be aware of when your membership needs to be renewed.  It can be renewed online up until the date that it expires.  After that, it must be renewed by phone or mail.  We hope everyone plans to renew!  Every cadet and senior is important to us!
(3)  Saturday, 1 Aug, is the date of the Sheffield Fireman's Parade.  We will discuss Tuesday evening whether we will be able to participate.
(4) Lt. Orris has been away serving at the NY Wing Encampment.  He plans to return this week.  Before going to encampment, Lt. Orris suffered an injury to one of his legs during a fire in the Bradford area.  He subsequently spent a few days in the hospital due to an infection.  We are thankful that he is recovering.  Welcome back, Lt Orris!

See you Tuesday!

NERRPA505 Update

Greetings 505!  Its great to be back after a few days away.  Congratulations to Pam Matheny for becoming a Cadet Sponsor Member of the squadron.  Congratulations to Daniel Hagberg for his promotion to C/SrA!

(1) Tonight is Emergency Services Emphasis night.  A Character Development class will also be offered since I was out of town last week.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.
(2) C/CMSgt Matheny is out of town this week attending football camp at Edinboro University.
(3) Testing may be offered as time allows for those who are ready.  Please study in advance.  This means more that an hour in advance of a squadron meeting.  The best approach is to block out a set amount of time, no less than half an hour, each week for study.  If you are having difficulty with a lesson, ask for help.
(4)  Everyone must be signed off on the monthly safety briefing in order to participate in anything other than classroom activities.
(5) The Cadet Pledge includes "I will attend meetings regularly."  Because of the amount of material that is covered in meetings, and the limited time available, you will miss a lot if you miss a meeting!  We understand that sometimes missing meetings can't be avoided, but do you best to attend regularly so you can "advance (your) training and education rapidly."  If you cannot attend a meeting, it is your responsibility to inform Cadet First Sergeant Matheny or Capt. Hagberg.
(6) Plan ahead to support the Color Guard and the Unit during the Sheffield Fireman's Festival, 1 Aug 09.

Invite a friend to every meeting!  Two recruits will earn a cadet recruiter ribbon.

See you tonight!

NERPA505 Update

Greetings 505!  Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!  I know this is late, and I apologize, but for those of you looking for it, here it is!

(1) Tonight's safety briefing will consist of the new ORM training that everyone will eventually need to take.  This is a recent requirement from National HQ.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.
(2) Tonight is also testing night.  Cadets who need phys. fitness testing should bring appropriate clothing, including running shoes.
(3) As predicted, two more inactive members dropped from our roster in June.  So, if you have not already invited someone to the meeting tonight, its not too late!  Please be aware of your membership date.  We don't want to lose anyone!

See you tonight!

Parade Update

Check in time for the Warren Jaycees 4th of July parade is from 0800 to 1000 hrs Saturday, 4 Jul 08 at the YMCA parking lot.

I plan to have the van there by 0800 to sign in and find our place in the lineup.  If this year goes like last year, we will probably be moved two or three times before they get us where they want us.  Hopefully, line up will go a little better this year.

The 505 Color Guard and support personnel should plan to arrive no later than 1000 hrs to allow time to get squared away and practice a little.  All Color Guard must be in USAF Class B blues with tie.  Supporting CAP members may wear their uniform of choice.

If you arrive after the van is in the lineup, call my cell phone at 6886940 and I will give you the location.  If you have an FRS radio, I will monitor channel 9.

Semper Vigilans!  See you on the Fourth!
