NERPA505 Update for the week of 28 Nov 2010

Hello 505!  I Hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Thanksgiving!  There is a lot to be thankful for, including the opportunity CAP provides us to serve our community, state and nation.

(1) The 30 Nov. meeting is a fifth Tuesday casual night.  There will be an Aerospace Education presentation since it is monthly core curriculum and was missed last week because of the meeting cancellation.  Cadets may attend in civvies if they wish.
(2) Capt will have a meeting re. our participation in the Wreaths Across America program.
(3) There have been some changes in the meeting requirements for the CAP safety program.  They will be addressed at the Safety meeting on 7 Dec.
(4) Mark your calendars:
  • Wednesday, 1 Dec, is the birthday of the Civil Air Patrol.  "Civil Air Patrol Sunday" is 5 Dec.
  • Saturday, 11 Dec, beginning at 1200 hrs, is the target for laying wreaths on veteran's graves at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell.  All cadets and senior members who will be available to participate should notify Capt. Hagberg.

Early NERPA505 Update for the week of 21 Nov. 2010

Hello 505!  Please note that the squadron meeting scheduled for 23 Nov. during Thanksgiving week has been canceled.  Many senior members and cadets will not be available.  The next scheduled meeting is 30 Nov.

(1) For those of you who missed Capt. Orris' Emergency Services class last night, the attached General Emergency Services notes cover most of his material and quite a bit more that he did not have time to address.  Current and prospective CAPF 101 card holders should be familiar with the GES material.
(2) Ch. Capt. Matheny, C/2 Lt. Matheny, and C/MSgt. will be out of town 19 through 26 Nov.  Ch. Matheny may be contacted, if needed, via his cell phone number.  It is unlikely that he will be able to check email.
(3) The 30 Nov. meeting will be Aerospace Education emphasis.  Testing will also be offered to those who are prepared.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.

NERPA505 Update for the week of 14 Nov 2010

Hello 505!  Congratulations are in order for senior member Brian Orris, who was promoted to Captain on 8 November!  Capt. Orris is the 505 Emergency Services and Safety Officer.  Capt. Orris also graduated on 24 Oct. from the Pennsylvania Fire Academy, and is now a certified Interior Fire Fighter.  Congratulations again, Capt. Orris!

Congratulations are also in order for cadet Collin Matheny, who completed the Charles Lindbergh achievement for promotion to Cadet Master Sergeant!

Maj. Brown, and Lt. Fuller completed Squadron Leadership School at Bethlehem, PA over the weekend.  They had to divert to Punxutawney because of inclement weather.  They plan to fly home when the weather clears early tomorrow morning.

(1) Tuesday is Emergency Services Emphasis.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.
(2) Dates to remember:
  • Group 6 Conference and Banquet, 20 Nov, at the Radisson Hotel, West Middlesex, PA.  Let's plan to have a great turnout from 505!  RSVP deadline has been extended to 17 Nov., so if you plan to go you need to get it in the mail!

NERPA505 Update for the Week of November 7, 2010

Hello 505!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  This week's shaping up to be a pretty one with mild temperatures, so I hope everyone is in good health and gets to enjoy it!

(1) Tuesday night's meeting is Character Development and Leadership emphasis.  The uniform of the day is Class B blues for cadets.  Cadets need to attend one Character Development session per achievement in order to progress through the ranks.
(2) Cadet mentors plan to spend at lease a half hour with the cadet(s) you are working with.  All cadets who have specific questions should prepare a list for their mentors.
(3) Important dates to remember:
  • Squadron 503 plans to host a Survival Training Weekend on 13-14 Nov. Members who are interested should inform Capt. Hagberg or Ch. Matheny.
