NERPA505 Update

Three cadets from 505 experienced their first O-Rides on 27 Mar. at Bradford Regional Airport. Thanks to Lt. Col. Chuck Steffan, Squadron 711, for bringing the aircraft and serving as Pilot in Command. A slide show has been added to the squadron blog.

(1) Tuesday is the date for the Monthly Safety Briefing. Cadets and senior members must be signed off on the safety briefing to participate in CAP activities. Members who miss the briefing on Tuesday should read the copy posted on the bulletin board and sign the attached log.
(2) Tuesday is also Physical Training emphasis. The uniform of the day is BDUs. Bring appropriate PT clothing, including running shoes. There are no standard PT clothing requirements, but clothing should be modest and without prominent images or wording. If the track at Beaty is in acceptable condition, we will plan a mile run.
(3) It looks like the fundraiser at WalMart will be a "Go" for 2 Apr., 16:00 to 20:00 hrs, pending approval from Wing HQ. Dinner will be provided for participating cadets. The weather will determine the uniform of the day. Participants will be notified on Friday. Cadets who plan to participate should inform Chaplain Matheny or Capt. Hagberg.
(4) We need a final count for cadets planning to attend the Cadet Conference on 17 Apr., so lodging can be reserved. A registration form can be viewed, printed, or downloaded by clicking here. We plan to travel to FTIG on the evening of Friday, 16 Apr., after the Color Guard posts the colors at the Warren Co. Republican dinner.

Semper Vigilans! See you Tuesday! Be proud of who you are and what you do in CAP!

NERPA505 Update

Greetings, 505, on a beautiful second day of spring! Congratulations are in order to SM Alan Fuller for completing his Level I training in less than a month! Great job!

(1) Tuesday is Aerospace Education emphasis. The uniform of the day is BDUs, sleeves rolled up. Senior members may choose to wear a a corporate uniform. We will plan to cover the Redstone Phase of the model rocketry program so cadets can test as quickly as a testing officer becomes available. Cadets should also be studying for their next leadership and aerospace achievements.
(2) I am working on scheduling a fundraiser for Friday, 2 Apr., from about 16:00 to 20:00 hrs. Cadets who can be available to help, please inform Chaplain Matheny or Capt. Hagberg. Funds raised will be used to help cadets defray expenses for the Cadet Basic Encampment at the end of June.
(3) 505's Color Guard has been invited to post the Colors at the annual Warren Co. Republican Dinner on 16 Apr. After posting the colors, cadets and senior members who plan to attend the Cadet Conference and the Wing Commander's call on 17 Apr. plan to travel to FTIG, Annville, PA.
(4) Cadets or senior members who are interested in learning about Amateur Radio (Ham), or how to become an amateur radio operator, please inform Chaplain Matheny. An amateur radio license is not necessary for participation in the CAP communications program since it falls under a different federal agency, but the knowledge gained is helpful for those pursuing the CAP Communications specialty track. Amateur Radio also opens up other exciting opportunities for service.

Don't forget to invite a friend to the squadron meeting! Be proud of who you are and what you do in CAP!

See you Tuesday!

NERPA505 Update

Greetings 505! The communications class at the Erie Squadron was well done and worth the effort for the 6 who attended from 505. Everyone who intends to function on a ground team should seek a Radio Operator Authorization, whether or not they intend to pursue a Communications Badge.

Re. C/2 Lt. Matheny, Flight Commander, there will be a cadet led discussion of military customs and courtesies that was postponed from last week.

(1) Tuesday night is Emergency Services emphasis. The uniform of the day is BDUs, sleeves rolled up, unless otherwise instructed by Capt. Hagberg.
(2) All ground team members should bring their 24 and 72 hour packs (if they have them) for inspection. We will make a list of what is needed and attempt to help those who need items to secure them as cheaply as possible. March 15-19 is Flood Safety and Weather Awareness Safety Week, so listen to your NOAA weather station for useful information. Tornado season is already in, and Pennsylvania experiences several tornadoes per year.
(3) Cadets and senior members who are interested in attending a Navigation Weekend sponsored by the Jimmy Stewart Squadron, Indiana, PA, can read or download their announcement by clicking here.
(4) Senior members who desire to attend upcoming professional development classed can view or download announcements by clicking here. (5) Don't forget to check your renewal date and try to renew before your membership lapses! You are an important part of 505!

Invite a friend to the meeting! Be proud of who you are and what you do in CAP!

Semper Vigilans! See you Tuesday!
