Major Chuck Wedge is currently serving as interim G6 Commander until applications are received and reviewed by PAWG.
(2) A request has been made to challenge the mile run tomorrow night for an achievement qualification. Anyone else who desires to challenge the run for their next achievement should dress appropriately for the run and for the weather.

NERPA505

Greetings 505!  Hopefully, everyone is getting resettled into the school-year routine by now.  We had a little better attendance during last meeting than we have had since football and soccer seasons started.  We appreciate everyone who attended the squadron meeting even after practices.  Think about using sports activities as recruiting opportunities.  A few of your friends who are active in sports may also be interested in some of the challenging opportunities CAP has to offer, especially in Emergency Services!  Make it a point to invite a friend to every meeting that you attend!  Be proud of who you are and what you do in CAP!

(1) Basic Cadet Orientation Program for cadets is still scheduled for 0800 3 Oct to 1600 4 October at the National Guard Armory, 108 Valley View Drive, Ford City, PA 16226.  Cost is $10.00 per cadet.  Contact Capt Aaron LaMantia at 724-248-0806 or ajlamantia@sqdn125.org.
(2) Tuesday is 5th Tuesday Emergency Service  emphasis.  We are working towards getting cadets and seniors signed off on as many SQTR items as possible in preparation for the upcoming SAREX scheduled for 23-25 Oct.  We will work on stretcher use and carries.  Captain Hagberg has directed that casual clothing may be worn on fifth Tuesdays.  After the ES class we will use the remainder of the time for snacks and games.
(3) Cadets who are unable to attend the BCOP are asked to help with our scheduled fundraiser from 1600 to 2000 3 Oct, and 1400 to 1800 4 Oct.  Please inform Captains Matheny or Hagberg if you are available.  This may be the last fundraising opportunity we have before spring 2010.
(4) Cadets and senior members are strongly encouraged to attend the PA Wing & Cadet Conferences 17-18 Oct.  There will be many excellent opportunities for meeting and studying with other PAWG members, plus, conference attendance is required for senior members who are seeking professional development.  I can verify that the education received and contacts made at CAP schools and conferences are valuable inside and outside of CAP.  Pre registration is required.  Information can be found at http://www.pawingcap.com/conference/ or http://pawingconference.eventbrite.com/.
(5) Be sure to have your calendars marked for the SAREX, 23-25 Oct.  The location has not yet been announced, but is projected to be in the Franklin, PA vicinity.

See you Tuesday!

NERPA505 Update

Greetings 505! I hope everyone is in full recruiting mode! According to CAP-wide statistics, the prime time of year to recruit cadets is between the beginning of the school year and Thanksgiving. Be sure you have some recruiting cards or other literature on hand. Invite someone to attend meetings with you and stick with them throughout the meeting. Direct people who have questions about CAP to http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com. There is a great 3 minute video entitled "Cadet Life in the Civil Air Patrol" located here (right click this link). It can be viewed online, downloaded and viewed on your computer, or burned to a DVD.

(1) Tuesday is Aerospace Education emphasis. We will plan to cover at least one module in Aerospace Dimensions. We will also have a brief discussion on the Model rocketry program. The uniform of the day is BDUs.
(2) During a brainstorming session after the last Character Development class, the cadets who were present came up a list of items that we all need to work on so we can present a better and more professional image. Beginning this Tuesday evening, the cadets will take on the responsibility of implementing the items on the list and give a monthly report on the progress. The items we will be working on at each meeting are: (1) military bearing, including customs and courtesies, (b) attending meeting regularly and getting to meetings on time, (c) informing cadet or senior leadership when you cannot attend or know that you will be late, (d) uniform and appearance standards, (e) respectfully greeting visitors keeping someone with them at all times, (f) having information and literature available to help answer questions and for recruiting, (g) demonstrating a good attitude in all the above. The cadets will also be working on a revised schedule that will facilitate advancing training and education rapidly.
(3) Next week is a 5th Tuesday, so we will plan some outdoor emergency services training (weather permitting). We will inform of details and specific location in Warren in the next update.
(4) Please plan ahead and mark your calendars for the Wing and Cadet Conferences on 17-18 Oct., and the Group 6 SAREX on 23-25 Oct.

See you Tuesday!

NERPA 505 Update

Greetings from the 174th Fighter Wing, Air National Guard, Syracuse NY!  Classes for CAP Corporate Learning Course are over for today, so I thought I'd get the update out a little early since I probably won't have time tomorrow.

(1) Capt, and C/SrA Hagberg will be unavailable 12-19 Sep.
(2) Tuesday's meeting will proceed as scheduled.  The emphasis will be Emergency Services and the uniform of the day will be BDUs.  In view of the upcoming SAREX, I strongly encourage everyone to attend the class session and discussion.
(3) As most of you know, our cadets have been invited by State Rep. Kathy Rapp to participate in a function honoring Vietnam veterans on 19 Sep.  Cadets who participate will help in posting various flags at the beginning of the ceremony, so they must wear Class B blues with a tie.  The event will be at St. Joseph's dining room, so we will plan to meet there at 1030 hrs.  Cadets who will be able to attend please notify Chaplain Matheny no later than the upcoming squadron meeting.
(4) All of our members are encouraged to plan ahead to participate in the Group 6 SAREX planned for 23-25 Oct, possibly in the Franklin area. The goal is to get as many Group 6 members signed off on Ground Team Member Level III as possible. We have covered enough material in our ES classes over the summer that we should have no trouble getting all active members signed off. This will also be an excellent time to get to know members from other squadrons.
(5) The time to register for the PA Wing Conference and Cadet Conference is now.  If you plan to attend, please inform Capt. Hagberg or Chaplain Matheny.  Also, Registration for the Group 6 Conference and Banquet is open, and will close on 1 Nov.  Again, please inform Capt. Hagberg or Ch. Matheny if you wish to attend.
(6) The squadron plans to have a fundraiser at WalMart during the first weekend in October.  We would like to have a couple of cadets available on Friday afternoon and at least four cadets on Saturday.  Please inform Ch. Matheny if you can help with the fundraiser.  The fundraiser at BiLo resulted in about $84.00.

See you Tuesday!

NERPA505 Update

Greetings 505!  I hope everyone had a fun and safe Labor Day weekend and that everyone plans to attend tonight's squadron meeting!  Also, the beginning of the school year is a great time to bring a friend.

(1) There will be a WIng Cadet Advisory Council meeting at FTIG, 19 Sep, 1100 to 1200 hrs.  All PA cadets are authorized to attend.
(2) Tuesday night is Character Development & Leadership emphasis.  The uniform of the day is Class B blues for cadets and blues or the corporate uniform for senior members.  Remember, cadets must attend at least one Character Development class per achievement.  The slow summer days have also slowed down our promotions a little, so now is a good time for all of us to renew our efforts to "advance my education and training rapidly".
Cadets who will be able to attend please notify Chaplain Matheny.
(5) We attempted our first fund raiser using the BiLo hotdog stand last Friday.  We won't know the amount of money raised until later today.  Capt. Hagberg and I attended the stand from about 1100 to 1500 hrs, and Cadets Hagberg and Collin Matheny attended the stand from about 1500 to 1800 hrs.  We each had numerous opportunities to interact with curious people about CAP and our squadron.
(6) Please keep track of when your membership is due to expire and plan to renew in advance. If you allow your membership to lapse, you will not be able to renew on eServices and will have to do it by mail or phone.
(7) A final note:  I plan to be away attending Corporate Leadership School on 12-13 Sep.  Capt. Hagberg and C/SrA Hagberg will be unavailable 12-19 Sep.

  Semper Vigilans!

See you tonight!
