NERPA505 Update for the Week of 31 October, 2010

Greetings 505! Thanks to everyone who helped make our Open House and Membership Night successful!  Special thanks to State Rep. Kathy Rapp for being on hand to present a Wright Brothers citation, and to Maj. Chuck Wedge for making the trip to be of encouragement to us.

(1) Tuesday night is Monthly Safety Briefing and testing night.  All of our cadets are eligible to test on something so all are encouraged to study up on Aerospace and/of leadership.  PT and drill testing will also be available.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.  Please bring appropriate "modest" exercise gear if you plan to participate in PT.
(2) Cadets and senior members are encouraged to review their eServices record for accuracy on a regular basis.  For some reason, subscriptions to Volunteer Magazine get occasionally deactivated.  On eServices, select CAAP Magazine Administration from the left column and be sure the "Add" button has been selected.
(3) Dates to remember:
  • Group 1 Conference and Banquet- Maj. Gary Fleming, Group 1 Commander, extended this invitation to us:  "I would like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to the Group One Conference this coming weekend.   It is Saturday, 06 November 2010.  The Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh International which is off the Business 60 off of I-376 that now connects to Rt 422 and the old Rt 60.  The hotel is across from the Air Reserve Base main gate."  See attached Group 1 document.
  • Squadron 503 plans to host a Survival Training Weekend on 13-14 Nov. Members who are interested should inform Capt. Hagberg or Ch. Matheny.
  • Group 6 Conference and Banquet, 20 Nov, at the Radisson Hotel, West Middlesex, PA.  A registration form is attached.  Let's plan to have a great turnout from 505!  RSVP deadline is 1 Nov., so if you plan to go you need to get it in the mail!

Hello 505!  I hope everyone plans to support the squadron by attending the Open House and Membership Night on Tuesday, 26 October!

(1) Are you interested in learning how to be a Skywarn Storm Spotter?  Cadets and senior members are invited to attend a Skywarn Winter Weather Storm Spotter class conducted by a representative of the National Weather Service, Buffalo, NY, at the Russell Fire Hall on 25 Oct. at 19:30 hrs.  Let Ch. Capt. Matheny know if you need transportation, or if you have questions.  The class will also be a great time to learn a little about the amateur radio service.
(2) Tuesday is our fall Open House and Membership Night, from 18:30 to 20:30 hrs.  Cadets and seniors who can come early to help set up and stay late to help clean up will be much appreciated!  The uniform of the day has been determined by Capt. Hagberg. Check with him if you are not sure what to wear.  A copy of the schedule worked out by C/2 Lt Matheny is attached.
(3) Some important dates to remember:
  • Joint Group 1/Group 6 Aerospace Education workshop for senior members and cadets, hosted by Squadron 123, at the New Castle National Guard Armory on 30 Oct. Inform Capt. Hagberg or Ch. Matheny if you plan to go. We need to be registered no later than 27 Oct. & there will be a 5.00 charge at the door.

NERPA505 Update for the week of 17 Oct 2010

Hello 505!  C/2 Lt Matheny and I returned from the PA Wing Conference and Banquet this afternoon. Capt Habgerg, Maj Brown and C/MSgt Hagberg returned yesterday evening.  It was a good conference, and worth the time invested.  I got a lot out of it, as I am certain that everyone did.

(1) Tuesday is ES emphasis night.  We'll introduce a new portion of ground team work and be sure SQTRs and ratings are up to date.  The uniform of the day is BDUs.
(2) Re. the Cadet Staff, an opportunity for PT training and testing will be provided.
(3) Capt Hagberg, Maj Brown, C/2 Lt Matheny and C/MSgt Hagberg will brief the squadron on information from the PA WIng Conference.
(4) Dates to remember:
  • Joint Group 1/Group 6 Aerospace Education workshop for senior members and cadets, hosted by Squadron 123, at the New Castle National Guard Armory on 30 Oct. Inform Capt. Hagberg or Ch. • Squadron 503 plans to host a Survival Training Weekend on 13-14 Nov. Members who are interested should inform Capt. Hagberg or Ch. Matheny.
  • Remember: 26 Oct. is our Fall Open House! There will be invitation fliers available during the squadron meeting and a PDF copy is posted on the squadron blog. The Open House is the centerpiece of our Fall recruiting drive, so all of us should be inviting as many people as we can and showing them how enthusiastic we are about our unique service to our community, state nation! We need all of our senior members and cadets to plan to turn out and support our effort.
